धनतेरस से पाँच दिन का दीपोत्सव शुरू होता है। यह कार्तिक कृष्ण त्रयोदशी को आता है और आयुर्वेद के देवता भगवान धन्वंतरि से भी जुड़ा है, इसलिए इस दिन सेहत और समृद्धि दोनों की कामना की जाती है। लोग नए बर्तन, सोना-चाँदी ख़रीदते हैं और शाम को घर के द्वार पर दीया जलाते हैं।Dhanteras opens the five days of Diwali. It falls on the thirteenth day of the waning moon in Kartik and is also linked to Lord Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda, so people pray for both health and prosperity. Families buy new utensils, gold or silver, and light a diya at the front door in the evening.
